Week of October 19th

PBiS Focus of the Week - Belonging: This lynchpin character need is met by being prosocially connected to significant others; having a sense of emotional connection to individuals singly or in groups (clubs, teams, interest groups, family, supportive people). Having emotionally healthy and secure bonds with others promotes feelings of positive self-worth, preparing youngsters to form these same nurturing attachments with decent, upright people in the future.

As Abraham Maslow (1953) pointed out in his "Hierarchy of Needs" model, after the physiological needs (e.g., minimal levels of food, water, temperature)are met, "Love and Belonging" needs are the next most important. Humans have a primal need to feel valued, important, and protected by significant others in their lives... to feel comfortable and welcomed within a frequent and important group such as family, friends, colleagues, etc. Of course, the family and one's close personal community are the most important influences on the original development of this area of self.

The focus this week is on bus arrival/departure.

**Halloween Door Decorating Contest is this week, as well as Michigan vs. Michigan State Buck Challenge!

A Note on Monthly Birthday Celebrations from Ms. Doctor:
I'm excited to share a fun new tradition we’ll be starting this year — Monthly Birthday Celebrations for all our K-12 students!  On the last day (or near the last day) of each month, we’ll come together to honor all the students with birthdays in that month. Each birthday student will receive a cupcake and a personalized card to make their day feel extra special. To make this celebration even more meaningful, different students will be selected each month to help with passing out the cupcakes and cards.  This will be a fun hands-on opportunity for our students to contribute to the celebration.  Summer birthday stars are included too! All June, July, and August birthdays will be celebrated during our June celebration and students who had birthdays in September will be celebrated in October so no one misses out. Later this week you’ll receive a short video to share with your students that introduces the Birthday Celebrations and builds excitement for our first event! A full schedule of celebration dates will be provided so you’ll know exactly when to expect the festivities. These Celebrations will occur during lunch so there will be no interruption of schedules.   Thank you in advance for helping make these moments special for our students.
