Week of March 15th

PBiS/Trauma-Informed Focus of The Month: Be Safe/Mastery

  • Multicultural Lunch

  • March Madness

  • Women's History Month celebrations

  • Special Event: TBD- 25 Beacon Bucks

Safety activities can be found here. Remember that "Mastery" does not mean a student has mastered a skill per se, but it means they can display the skill with success, and build on it.

IEP Reminders
The special education department is now pulling IEP's at random to conduct compliance checks. We have had some reoccurring themes that need to be addressed. Please check your IEP's for the following, to be sure they are compliant (it may be good to have a friend look them over as well):

  • Be sure that all required signatures are on the IEP prior to handing it in to Amy
  • Completed IEP's should be provided to Amy no later than 3 days after the IEP has convened.
  • The PLAAFP should always include data that is not older than a year, as well as progress (or lack there of) toward current goals and objectives.
  • Any item stated in the "resulting needs" portion of the PLAAFP that is an accomodation, must be listed on the Supplementary Aides and Services page. Additionally, all accommodations listed must also be in a a "resulting needs" area of the PLAAFP.
  • We only fill in portions of the PLAAFP that are deficit areas for the students, based on current data.
Calendar Reminder
If you are scheduling a meeting, whether it be a PIRM, staffing, behavior review, IEP, etc..., please look at the Beacon IEP calendar first. If there is already a meeting scheduled during that time, please do not schedule another meeting at the same time. The point of this calendar is that we don't have overlapping meetings that we may not be able to provide coverage for. As you all know, we don't have an endless supply of subs, and it can be very difficult to provide coverage when we have several meetings scheduled for the same time period. Additionally, when entering meeting on the calendar, PLEASE include staff names so I know who requires coverage. Your help with this is appreciated.

March is Reading Month!

Thank you to Becky Masserant for putting together the March is Reading Month Calendar, which can be found here.

Vision Screenings

The Wayne County Health Department will be at our building for Vision Screenings on Thursday, March 19th. The screening are for students in grades 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9. 7th and 9th grade will come down during 1st period (students will be called by room), and the 1st, 3rd, and 5th graders will then be called by room.

Just One Thing

Since I forgot to share the "Just One Thing" from the AT Committee for February, I'm sharing it now. March has not been shared out yet to Admin. The focus is on Google Gemini to help support staff in learning about another tool that is available in our Google suite.
